Old Way Love (Radio Edit)

about

An urban pop crossover jam, ‘Old Way Love’ is the major new single by Melbourne-based producer/singer/songwriter Spectoral. The young Australian songwriter is known for future soul vibes, amassing thousands of monthly listeners on Spotify and over 3100 followers on Instagram thanks to his hip-hop influenced beats and social media omnipresence.

‘Old Way Love’ opens with an immediate subversion of expectations: "The first three lines of the record set you up for something romantic and glitzy, but that's all taken away in a heartbeat," says the producer. A bittersweet, crushing tale wrapped in futuristic, high-spec pop, the single revels in its celebration of farewelling a love that isn’t yours. "This record is essentially for the one you always wanted, but for whatever reason the stars just never aligned".

Mixed by James Grover at Peak Studios UK and mastered by the world class Ben Feggans at Studios301 (Ngaiire, Hayden James, Flume), the song is the opener to Spectoral’s highly anticipated sophomore EP, “An Incorruptible Dream”, dropping this July. In the meantime, Spectoral will officially be launching the single live @ Horse Bazaar, Melbourne, on Saturday 16th June, with local indie pop acts Orches, Twofold Vision and Phoenix Manson in support. To RSVP, head to Spectoral’s socials on Facebook or Instagram.

lyrics

She says she loves in the old ways
A childhood spark from our old days
I see her smiling back
As she dances with the man she loves

And that man isn't me
It seems your destiny did miss me, baby
I've known you since our teens,
I'd sell my soul to be your future, baby

I was always your Frank Ocean,
The ghost who's writing all your letters, baby
To everyone but me,
Drop your lashes down
I wish I knew how to tell you how I feel

I wish I knew how to tell you how I feel
To say how I feel, girl
To say how I feel, girl
To say how I feel
I wish I knew how to tell you how I feel
To say how I feel, girl
To say how I feel, girl
To say how I feel
I wish I knew how to tell you how I feel

I'm tired of smothering the signals, baby
But it's rare that you're free
Girls like you, they don't stay single, baby

Relegated to your bestie
Go on, hug me in your selfie
Hide the love endlessly
Though it brings me down
I wish I knew how to tell you how I feel

I wish I knew how to tell you how I feel
To say how I feel, girl
To say how I feel, girl
To say how I feel, girl
I wish I knew how to tell you how I feel

To say how I feel, girl
To say how I feel, girl
To say how I feel,
I wish I knew how to tell you how I feel

She say she loves in the old ways
A childhood spark from our old days
I watch her smile with her arms raised
I see her smile

She say she loves in the old ways
A childhood spark from our old days
A childhood spark from our old days
I see her smile
